DevLog#11 - Is this the end?
The Game Project comes to an end and so our last sprint. This week was and still is all under the topic polishing. After we got the hardest obstacles out of the way, our game made a huge jump in visual and player feedback terms.
Programming
We implemented the animations! Easier to say then executed. First the animation controller had to be created and then the programming part started. Unfortunately combining the animations and our game gave us some problems. But at the end of the day the mum and her children walk now casually through the game like they never did anything else before. At least one child is running. The other babies had a problem with the texture, which is already fixed though.
We also polished a feature that we implemented last week. The oven. It is now completely functional and stuns mum and babies for some seconds. So better don’t run in there!
Another big part that we had to work on was the game loop. Even it is a technical feature and so basically not allowed to put in after the 3. Sprint, our mentors showed merci. A game without a game loop would also be… weird. So now if the babies or the mum win the player gets to the winner screen and can return to the main menu.
Art
UIs was also a big topic in the artsection this week. We created the design for the start, select and pause screen. Additionally, we added some universal buttons.
The other part was to make more particles. From simple dust to blood splatters do we had to fill the range of possible VFX components. All our particles have a cartoony feeling to fit in the game.
But most of our work this week was tweaking and changing materials, models and textures together with filling the scene with more props and give it a proper lighting. Now the scene looks almost done (I mean artist are never done, am I right?).
Music
Our music made another big step, environment sounds. Last week we already implemented our backgroundmusic which we round off now with sounds that happen in action. The microwave ‘pings’ when it’s ready, the blender has it’s typical slashing sound and plates break if they hit the ground. And of course, the fire breathing oven is not missed out
Bugs
Our bugs got boring and are not share worthy anymore. But as an apologise we have a cute and funny duckie particle for you.
