DevLog #1 - A first glance at Mama Mayhem
Welcome to the first DevLog of Mama Mayhem!
The game is for now in Prototyping state so information on what you actually do in Mama Mayhem is sparse.
The point here is to rectify this with a gameplay breakdown.
Mama Mayhem is a couch co-op game about 3 babies trying to eat cookies and trying to hurt themselves while a mother will do everything to avoid that. But what exactly does that mean? The gameplay can be divided into three main Gameplay Pillars: Capturing Babies, Get hurt/Eat and Interacting with the environment. Every point will be shortly discussed because nothing is yet official (Work In Progress)...
Capturing Babies
The goal of the mother is to capture all the babies by putting them one by one in their cot. The captured baby would then be trapped and either need to wait for baby colleagues to rescue him or need to start crying to get the attention of the mother. After crying for a certain amount of time, if the mom doesn't take care of him, he would be able to evade from his baby bed and would run off again to collect more cookies. The whole point of the babies in this case, is obviously, to try not to get caught by the mom.
Get Hurt/Eat
On the other hand, the goal of the babies is either to eat cookies or hurt themselves in any way. To this end, the babies can either crawl their way to cookies dispersed in the room or try to find any dangerous objects to use. All of that while trying to avoid mom. Getting caught will not only be dangerous for you, but also for your baby colleagues. Each baby will have his own score at the end of the game so competition between the babies is key, but if all the babies are caught by the mother, then she will win the game. In other words, the babies will also need to work together to avoid losing.
Interacting with environment
The environment will take a big place in the game. A lot of objects in the scene will be useful, for the mom or the babies. Limiting an access to a certain part of the room, stunning, slowing down, etc... the possibilities are wide and will be essential for either one of the players. Each room will have its own mechanic and will provide more different objects to use.
Current State of the Game
As said before, the game is currently in prototyping state, so everything are just ideas that only wait an implementation. By the way the game is made using Unity.
