DevLog #2 - What do we expect of Mama Mayhem


This DevLog is just to talk about our expectations for Mama Mayhem.

To start of, the most important question is "Is our game fun?". The answer to that is : probably, the game is based on a hilarious and messed up arena with crazy ideas and interactions. It should not be the most complicated game to understand, making it even easier to enjoy when playing with different people.

The point of the game is to be smooth, so will be the camera. The top down twin-stick camera is the camera that fits the most our game (players need all the information of the room as well as all the locations of the objects and the positions of the other players).

"Would the babies be overpowered because they are 3 against one only mother ?". No, basically there will be numerous things that will handicap the babies (objects in the scene, gameplay restrictions such as mashing two buttons to crawl, different move speeds etc...). This will be a lot of balancing but the babies will have enough trouble for the mom to be able win.

"Why do we develop our game with Unity?". This question is the most tricky one because the game could work on both Unity or Unreal, the thing is that the programmers assigned on this project are not that familiar with Unreal C++, even though this is not why we chose Unity. Our behaviors - scripts - movements  will need to be changed very often during the development of this game. If we would have done it in Unreal, this would be a problem since modifying a script will need the objects itself to be changed as well since the scripts in Unreal are extensions added to the objects and not components as in Unity. This will save us a lot of time, creating even more space for us to add new features instead of constantly modifying what we have over and over again.

What do we expect for the next update ?

A finished playable scene that can be played with multiple players at the same time.

The additional ideas around the babies and the mom (design + mechanics) should be clear and maybe implemented as well as some sort of environment interactions.
